Ram trucks in action in Chicago, PickupTrucks.com, Feb. 8
o At this year's Chicago Auto Show, the Ram Truck brand is offering a rather rugged and extensive ride-and-drive event, in addition to giving us a first look at the new Laramie Limited package, PickupTrucks.com said. Show-goers can ride along as the Ram 1500 hauls, climbs, navigates and out-punishes a series of closed-course obstacles, the website said. The Laramie Limited is the only model in the lineup that doesn't have any Ram 1500 badging or trim package labeling on the side of the truck, and we like the cleaner look, PickupTrucks.com said.
Ram, Fiat, Jeep® lead Chicago Auto Show's interactive displays, Chicago Tribune, Feb. 9
o This is one of the most interactive auto shows we've ever been to and provides plenty of opportunities for show-goers to get into a new vehicle and see how they perform, the Chicago Tribune said in its wrap-up of the local auto show. The Chrysler booth was probably the leader in this category, as they had separate Fiat, Ram 1500 and Jeep® driving courses, the Tribune said. Ram Truck stole the show with the display of their new Laramie Limited top-of-the-line (non-western) trim package and having a huge driving exhibition where Ram 1500s drove over logs, twist ditches, up hills and into tight corners, the Tribune said. Consumers will not only be able to see how the truck looks, but they'll also know how it rides over various terrains, the article said.
    2012 Chrysler 300S, Winding Road.com, Feb. 9
o The 300S's eight-speed gearbox is one of those rare treats that works well on its own or when shifted manually, winding Road.com said. Left in D, it shifts seamlessly and smoothly, in a way that makes it feel almost nonexistent, the website said. Response from the gearbox is very quick, at about half a beat faster than we've come to expect from even some of the better manual modes we've used, the article said. It also happens very smoothly, and shifts are therefore supremely slick and rewarding when driving with a bit of verve, the article said. With the Pentastar V-6, the car feels quite quick and is willing to push hard when asked to surge forth from a corner or pass another vehicle on the highway, the article said. The ride in the 300S is quite comfortable, allowing the occupants to enjoy a calm, comfortable cruise, the article said. The interior is very tastefully done, and the leather seating is an excellent place to plant yourself for extended periods of time, the article said. The cabin is quite roomy, and has a lot of visual appeal, the article said. The inclusion of a 10-speaker Beats by Dr. Dre audio system also brings a bit of vivaciousness to the model, the article said. The 300S is a great addition to the lineup, whether one is looking for that capable transmission, a nice interior atmosphere or a visual experience free from excess wood and chrome, the article said. It also offers the amenities and creature comforts that we've come to expect from the 300, while making it slightly more competent for those of us who like to get our kicks on the open road, Winding Road.com said.
    2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4X4, Autos.ca, Feb. 8
o For 2012, the Wrangler offers the new Pentastar 3.6L DOHC V6 mated to a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual, and the new engine is really responsive and moves this monster with unexpected authority, Autos.ca said. Behind the wheel, the Wrangler offers a commanding view, the website said. The interior is a marriage between familiar Jeep ergonomics and the latest technologies, though even with these new options, the Wrangler still has a somewhat spartan interior, the article said. A Jeep Wrangler can be an amazing deal: If you need to take four adults deep into the brush with all their gear while towing a boat, this is your truck, Autos.ca said. For those looking for a serious weekend off-road toy, the cheaper, more agile Wrangler Rubicon may make more sense, the article said.
Mopar® revival continues, Calgary (Canada) Herald, Feb. 10
o For millions of Chrysler enthusiasts, it is Mopar® or no car, the Calgary Herald said. The brand continues to expand, the paper said. For 2012, the Mopar-badged production vehicle is the Mopar '12 300, a performance transformation of its flagship 300 sedan and a vehicle fitting of the Mopar brand's 75th anniversary, the Herald said. Only 500 of these cars will be built, the article said. The Mopar '12 300 will be easily identifiable by its blacked-out appearance, the article said. Mopar packages will also be available in 2012 for the Fiat 500 "Stinger," Mopar Jeep Compass "True North" and the Dodge Dart "GTS210 Tribute," the Herald said.
